Small Animal Care

Small animals typically remain caged and many people who don't own one aren't aware that they are extremely social creatures. Most small pets need the company of others of their kind and a single caged animal can get exceptionally lonely when they know their humans aren't around. Interactions with these animals might be different, but they are just as important as the attention a dog or cat should receive.

When I come to care for your small pet, they actually get more than the time that you have paid for because I believe that even small animals should be properly greeted and fussed before I even approach the cage. Most pet owners do not open the door and immediately snatch up their small pet to interact with, they talk to their pet as they walk up to the cage, gently waking them or preparing them for interaction from the outside world. Owners who hire me are guaranteed that their pet receives the full amount of interactive time requested, plus a five to ten minute buffer of introduction and farewell time. No person would want a giant to snatch them up from their slumber or meal to walk them around their house, then unceremoniously dump them back to bed. I don't believe your small pet enjoys that either.

If your small pet should remain in their cage during my visit, I stay in the room with them for the full requested time, reading to them or talking to them. It is my firm belief that having an audible presence in the home eases the anxiety of feeling alone and helps your pet's emotional balance while you are away.

Rates:

$10 Half Hour Care and Companionship Time Includes:

• Food and water check.
• Introduction and farewell time.
• A full half hour of care, companionship, and enrichment activities.
• Care of any medical needs.
• Real time updates with photos.
• Written documentation of care given each day and total cost.
• Emergency card stating you have pets at home, containing my contact information.
• Mail and newspaper collection. (If needed.)
• Plant care. (If needed.)

This is a per-species price, which means households with multipile types of pets will be asked to pay $5 per additional type of pet, this includes fish and other aquarium animals.

It is rare that I am asked to stay longer than half an hour for small pet care. For a list of all other available care plans and costs, please visit my page on dog care. Length of visits can be negotiated, however 24 hour care is only available on weekends and holidays, by request.

Paperwork is REQUIRED for all pet care. Please print the forms on my Forms page to have ready for your pet's first day of care.
