The phrase “Birds of a feather flock together” is spoken often, and for good reason. Most birds need the company of others to feel happy. They are also incredibly smart and their interactions with other birds or with people provides not only an emotional boost, but an intellectual one as well.
When I come to care for your bird, they actually get more than the time that you have paid for because I believe that birds should be properly greeted before I even enter their room. Owners who hire me are guaranteed that their bird receives the full amount of interactive time requested, plus a five to ten minute buffer of introduction and farewell time. No person wants a stranger walking in on them to throw food and water at at their feet and then be left alone without a word spoken between them. I don't believe your bird enjoys that either.
If your bird should remain in their cage during my visit with them, I remain in the room with them for the full requested time, reading to them or talking to them. It is my firm belief that having an audible presence in the home eases the anxiety of feeling alone and helps your pet's emotional balance while you are away.
